New York, Sep 20 (EFE).- US President Joe Biden arrived in New York on Tuesday to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, where he will announce increased funding against the food crisis and ask his allies to step up their efforts to help Ukraine.

The presidential plane Air Force One landed on the runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 5:25 p.m. local time (9:25 p.m. Iceland time), and from there the president took a helicopter to get to downtown New York.

Biden plans to participate tonight in a reception for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the executive branch of the Democratic Party, which has increased in recent weeks the number of events the president intervenes in because of the dwindling number of them. went before the Althingi elections in November.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the president will deliver his second presidential address to the United Nations General Assembly.

As White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan explained on Tuesday, Biden will condemn Russia’s “unjustified” war in Ukraine and ask all countries of the world, especially its allies, to maintain their support for Ukraine despite the food crisis and fuel problems caused by the conflict.

Likewise, Biden will announce more funding against the food crisis to help developing countries, which have demanded more support from the United Nations to avoid potential catastrophes.

The US president will also hold two bilateral meetings: one with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the other with British Prime Minister Liz Truss, in what will be the first meeting between the two.

Biden will also address a meeting of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (FMAIDS) and announce “historic commitments” in monetary terms to fight these diseases, Sullivan said.

In the evening, in a relaxed atmosphere, the President of the United States and the First Lady, Jill Biden, will host a reception at the Natural History Museum where they will meet all the leaders participating in the Great Week of the United Nations.

Biden will participate in another Democratic National Committee event on Thursday and will return to Washington that day.
